This picture gives you a good idea of Iskeroon’s
location overlooking Derrynane Harbour, and also of the almost Caribbean-like
quality of the water - certainly in terms of clarity, if not temperature.
You can see the proximity of the Derrynane National Park (the wooded
area, marked '4') and Derrynane Beach ('5') which has been awarded
Blue Flag status and is one of the best beaches in the country.
Key:
-
Bunavalla Pier. This is where you turn left onto
our private road - there is a sign saying "Iskeroon, Private
Road" at this point. A boat for the Skelligs leaves from
here - 5 minutes walk from the house.
-
Derrynane Pier and Harbour. This is ten minutes'
walk from Iskeroon, across the Mass Path. You can rent kayaks
and dinghies from here, and take sailing lessons. Ideal for
swimming.
-
Keating's Bar. Ten minutes' walk from Iskeroon
and popular place with our guests for a drink, soup and sandwiches.
-
Derrynane National Park and House. The heavily
wooded national park contains some beautiful and interesting
gardens, including a South American collection. Derrynane House,
home of Daniel O'Connell, the famous 'Liberator' who won Catholic
emancipation in the nineteenth centure and is deservedly a national
hero, is now a museum and there is a good cafeteria here as
well.
-
Derrynane Beach. This amazing Blue Flag beach, more than a
mile long, skirts Derrynane Bay. Great for shells, swimming
and walking.

from Derrynane Harbour by a small strip of sand and rock.
